Team Connal 2004:

The Marathoners!

Lots of places, mostly Northern Virginia, though I currently reside in the great Mormon bastion of Salt Lake City. People sure are friendly around here.

Fiancé, Kathryn. Dog, Aida. Pick Up Truck, Big Red.

Ran all my life, though never on purpose. Started "running" as an effort to do my part for the war on terrorism. Have trained for two marathons and completed the one last year with you sick bastards. Last year was for fun, this year it's business. Just kidding, it will probably be fun, too. Like our President, Heidi, I too would like to better my time of 5:04.

I've only really been to NYC once. And I dug it. This fall we all need to go that Italian restaurant (Heidi you know the one) that serves that spaghetti (Heidi help me out here) and eat that spaghetti. It is gooo-od.

My power would be "Conversation Killer", and I would have the ability to completely halt a conversation with one quick witticism, and leave the bystanders speechless and dumbfounded. I'm very close to mastering this technique.

Don't over-train.  I have found in running (which is boring as watching paint dry) is best done on the spur of the moment, as if chased by rabid dogs, or, if like you're really, really hungry and there is a hot-dog cart just in the distance.  I have found over the course of 2 of these grueling events over the past 10 years that this technique works.  Oh, and always bring cab fare -- you never know.

- Favorite Part -- lifestyle -- believe it or not the suburbs are much more stressful than good ole downtown.

- New thing -- go to Governor's Island -- just opened...an old military installation....can't wait.

Mind-reading....well, that could be good and bad, I guess.  But just think what a neat bar trick that would be.  If not that, then Invisibility....though crushing cars as a hotel turned robot is also intriguing.

BTW - Commentary on the super-powers declared to date:

1 - Heidi - with auto-transport, maybe we could all share and like get a 0 time!  No blisters, no hassles, no nothing, except an awesome photo at the end....like way ahead of the Kenyans!

2 - Amanda - I would like to see your Omnilingual skills come up against the Conversation Stopper....now that would be a sight!

Alexandria wife Wendy and 9 month old daughter Anna,    my dog Maggie, and Wendy's cat (not mine!) Lucy. I took up running in an effort to stop resembling John Popper after college.  USMC was my first marathon.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is my Mecca. I do have a superpower, I am ZEUS, and I can shoot lightning bolts from my ass.

Why choose?

Ran with the group last year in the MCM and am thrilled to be able to do it all again - am looking to beat Oprah's time this year.

Cafe Habana at 9am on Saturdays - best Huevos con Chorizo in the world, great Cafe con Leche.  I'll be at the bar if anyone cares to join me.

I would be omni lingual.  I could travel freely through the world understanding all languages, dialects, written characters and animal signals.  I would become a famous diplomat, able to mediate between hostile nations and the animal kingdom; my weapon would be complete understanding.  Though there is the risk of becoming a sort of Cassandra like character where no listens to me even though I know all!  For that reason, I'd also be a warrior-princess in the tradition of Beatrix Kiddo of Kill Bill fame.  So I guess if I had to choose, I'd be an ass-kicking, omni lingual vixen - as the job would require.

But again, why choose?  I want it all.

Who needs pets when I have you people?

Didn't even know what running was until last year's training. Now I'm hooked.  I finished the MCM in 5:15 and I'm hoping for a personal best this year.   We'll see. I've been out of commission with a back injury and haven't run since early May, but I'm hoping that physical therapy and slow running will get me back into marathon shape.

My favorite part of the city is definitely Central Park. And I'd really like to go to the Whitney Museum, because I've lived here for ten years but still haven't been there.

To transport myself from one place to another. How cool would that be? No plane tickets. No waiting in lines. No sitting next to 300-lb men in tiny seats. Of course, then I could never use the "I can't make it to your party" excuse.

This will be my sixth marathon and to make myself get out and train and since this is New York, a la Joe Namath, I will guarantee that I will that my finish time will begin with a 3!  This of course means that if I go over 3:59.59.99 then I will have to wait by the finish line until it reads 30:00.00.01.  Will it still be there on November 8th?

Looking forward to just spending time in NYC...have driven through a couple times, but never spent time there.

My super power as KhakiMan...is the ability to have chameleon like powers when in preppy clothing stores and dormant Bermuda grass...I also blend in well with beige cars.  Next time you are in the south during winter and are looking at a dormant swath of Bermuda grass...look closely because you never know when KhakiMan! will emerge.

Doug "Big Head" D

Farmington Hills, Michigan- northwest suburbs of Detroit. I grew up mostly in Richmond, VA and went to JMU, which is how I know some of the other clowns on this list. My family is all "back" in northern lower MI which is the main reason I live in this state.

I have dozens of chia-pets arranged in the shape of a peace symbol in my yard, to encourage potential terrorists to opt for world peace
instead.

Never been seriously into running except for one summer in college. But the TC experience in the MCM last fall seemed pretty awesome, from my "drunken cheerleader" point of view anyway. So a few months ago, after not having exercised much all winter, I decided to run 8 miles non-stop,  knowing I had never run that far before. I was in pain for days, but I said to myself, "I really like this pain and suffering, and
I want more." So here I am.

Never been there before. However, Scores sounds highly intriguing.

To see through women's' clothing, like those ads for "x-ray vision" in
the back of comic books when I was a kid. Those people used to get
pretty pissed when I kept sending the glasses back as "defective."

Jennie "The Duchess" L

Currently homeless...sort of! Just moved in with my MIL in Downey, CA while we wait
for the new house in the high desert closer to Palm
Springs and Vegas. Can't wait to be away from L.A.
traffic.

Husband, Tivo, who is running with TC instead of
cheerleading this year. 2 dogs, Lyon and Shadow.

First organized run outside of high school was the MCM. Training was awful and so was my time. I vow to improve it this year by at least an hour. Did a 10K
in Feb and a 5K in May. Missed our 10K Mud Run at Camp Pendleton b/c I was feeling under the weather,
but Tivo came through the mud like a muddy champ.

I loooooooooved running through Central Park for the little 5K I did with the Prez in May. Can't wait to do that again.

Not to steal your answer Heidi, but that is
sooooooooooooo my super power. It sure would make running with TC easier. :)

Steve "Tivo" L

Downey, CA at the moment, soon to be in our new home
which is 1 1/2 hours closer to VEGAS !!!

My lovely wife Jennie also on Team Connal, Shadow & Lyon

Basketball in High School, Then as a Team Connal Cheerleader for the MCM last year & last week to
kick off my training with the 10K Marine Corps Mud Run

The Food, $5.00 watches, driving in the City, A Fridays on every corner.

There are many: the ability to eat as much as I want and not gain weight,
Transparency powers, flying (that one is great for marathons)

None
Kids: Harper, 2, Nathaniel, -.2 (due in August).

In Atlanta they call me Ken, short for Kenyan, because I run so darn fast
and I often forget my shoes.
GO TO NYC. That's right - in 32 years of life on this planet I've never been North of Philadelphia, unless you count the one time I bought a 1980 VW Dasher in Jersey (it was hand-painted to resemble the General Lee, I sh#t you not)   I would be able to instantly sanitize my undergarments without removing them
so I would never have to change underwear, prolonging my ability to go
several days without showering. (My current record is only 5 days in 1992. My new millennial best only 3)
Jeff "Jizzle Shizzle" S

Bar Harbor, ME by way of Springfield, VA and Hyde Park, NY

Amy, Caitlin, The Nate Dogg, 2 cats, and one dog

2 Marine Corps Marathons, numerous small road races, and the Infamous 10th Annual Key West Turkey Trot

The part with the taxis and tall buildings

I'd be Bacon Man and have the ability to turn into Kevin Bacon and stand in for him during the filming of "Wild Things"

Sydney, although I really think I was meant to be from NY (I was here when I was 3 and ended up in the emergency room with a button stuck up my nose - I think it was a ploy to try and stay, it only took another 26 years to
finally get here)

Boy friend Tim in the US, Jimmy my cat in Sydney

First time Marathoner - actually just started running this year so very
scary - did a 9 mile run on Sunday so actually starting to think I can do
it.

This is so difficult, but I think Central Park (now that I spend so much
time there on the weekends!)

I've never been to
Staten Island before and I think that's where it starts

To be able to eat all and everything I wanted and not gain a pound.

have an amazing wife, Susan who not only puts up with me 365 days a year, she has cheered me on at every race!

This will be my 7th marathon.  All previous have been MCM's.  I have recently taken to the 10 milers which I highly recommend.  Beer is more easily consumed after 10 miles as opposed to 26.2!

There are many...the Empire State building, Statue of Liberty, and the Waldorf are fond childhood memories.  We recently were in NYC for the weekend and hung with Heidi and other friends.  We hit the Karaoke bar which sounds corny, but was a lot of fun.  They have private rooms so you only embarrass yourself in front of friends.  You place your drink orders by telephone.  I also recommend going to the Today Show.  We went and had a blast.  I think we should consider going as Team Connal on Monday after the marathon.  Heidi, do you think the producer that did the story last year could help us on this?  It is a great time!

this has been debated among several TC members.  I would defer to the Captain to regale the group of the story at my bachelor party where this began.  This heated debate was one that Jon was actively involved in as well.  I maintain that the ability to fly is the best super power, which I posses along with the protective force field / ramming and destructive capability inherent to the Dark Helmet.  Let the debate continue.

I don't see the world in terms of different places. I think we all are from one place. Earth. Which, incidentally, is chemically zoned, according to my geology professor freshman year.

(Northern VA)

Ginnie, Sadie, Frank, and Sweet Pea. No pet rocks.

I mostly run so that I can drink beer. This will be my fifth marathon, unless I qualify for the Olympics in which case it will be my sixth. Even though I will probably win the Olympic Marathon I will still run this one with you bastards.

The part with the beer. I plan to take my wife and daughter to Scores. I think it's good for kids to see all of the options available to them from an
early age.

Aside from the fact that I can already turn myself into a giant robot, I
think that I would like to have the ability to then transform into an
airplane or a truck or something else really cool. Maybe a building. I
mean, being able to turn into a robot is really nice and all, but dude, what
if I could turn into a building? I could have a really nice lobby with some potted plants and comfortable sofas. Maybe several elevators. I think I would want to be a building with really nice balconies and large spacious bathrooms with marble and brass fixtures. People could go to work in me and maybe host small receptions with cake and other stuff for birthdays. Then, when they get all nice and comfortable I would turn back into a robot and stomp on all of their cars. Yeah, that would be a good super power.

Evan W
Alexandria, VA Wife Bridget (ran the MCM Marathon with the team), Benjamin (4) and Hannah (2) with a bun in the oven - still far out!  Working hard to build the "Weisel" Sports Dynasty!
Have always run - kind of like Forrest Gump until I turned 21 and found alcohol.  Ran 4 marathons before I turned 10 with a PR at the time of 3:44.  Have run another 10 or so since the eary days.  MCM was a painful experience last year and I think I am 10 pounds heavier this year with a bum ankle - plan to start training in mid July with the goal to break 4:00 - but I am sure two weeks before the race I will be saying that I just want to finish because that damn game of beer pong, still to this day, and almost every weekend is played - Benjamin loves it when the ball lands in the cup - should I even be a parent???
Always enjoy visiting NYC (do not know how people actually live there) but the best part are the restaurants and bars  - so many choices! That is eay - Its almost 3am as I type this - superpower would be that I could make my kids sleep 12 straight hours...even 8-10 hours....without waking me up.  I belive both Benjamin and Hannah have finally fallen asleep but in my bed so I will have to go to sleep in Benjamin's bed...legs hanging off at the knee.
