About
the Team Connal Running Club:
The
History of the Team
Team
Connal was created in February 2003 at the memorial service of our
friend, Jon Connal. Jon's unexpected death at the age of
31sparked a large group of friends to lace up their running shoes
and hit the pavement. To honor his memory and his love of
marathons, we entered the 2003 Marine Corps Marathon in
Washington, DC. Over half of us were first-time marathoners,
but looked to each other for inspiration and guidance.
Team Connal's story was picked up by NBC's The
Today Show, by The Washington Post
(front page of the Sports section - woo hoo!), and
by JMU Montpelier Magazine
- each of which
were inspired by the energy and the range of Team Connal.
And our cheerleaders lined the course with their unique orange
signs and white Team Connal t-shirts. Twenty-three
of us ran and had an amazing day, with times varying from
3:39 to 7:10. Go Team!
Who
We Are Now
What
started as a one-time memorial has now become a full-fledged Team
with t-shirts, pasta parties, signs, and our own portable
Cheerleading Squad. Though we are located all across the
U.S., we are focused on running one marathon together a year -
with a few major runs in between.
Feel
free to surf around our website and learn about who we
are.
What's
with the Orange and Blue?
Jon was a hard-core
University of Florida Gators fan. So
we wear these colors with pride. As an added bonus, the colors are easy to
see from a distance when running.
