April 27 - United States: Portland, OR

We slept in and didn't leave Eugene until 12:00 - check out time.  But we knew we were only driving to Portland, which is about three hours away.  So we kind of dawdled a bit, and stopped by some outlets on our way north.

When we got to Portland, we checked into a Motel 6 about 15 minutes south of town.  There, we spent some time catching up on journals and doing laundry.  You can tell we're getting tired of traveling when we get to a city and are perfectly happy to veg in the hotel room.  Case in point: Singapore (not that there's much to see there).

Bridgeport Ale House

But we did make it out for dinner.  Jon had put his foot down days ago and insisted that we go to a microbrewery for dinner tonight.  He's been craving microbrew beer for months now.  So we found this place from Lonely Planet, and called ahead for directions.  Unfortunately the direction ("Take the 5 North over the Marquam Bridge and then take the Water Street exit") were less than reliable, as there was no "Water Street Exit".  So we ended up driving over the Marquam Bridge about three times before we exited and found our own way to the restaurant.

The Bridgeport Ale House

The food was fantastic, as was the beer.  Jon had this hazelnut-encrusted halibut with wild rice and cranberries that was delicious.  And I had the steak with horseradish potatoes and mushrooms.  Very tasty.

Sunset Over Portland

On our way out of the restaurant, we decided to drive over the Hawthorne Bridge and check out a little of Portland.  But by this time, the sun was setting and there wasn't much to see.  So we hopped on the road and headed back to the motel.
