February 27 - Australia: Cairns, Queensland

We woke up and hung around the apartment, tidying things up and getting ready for Jon's friend Mike to arrive.

At 12:30, we left to run some errands and then went to the airport to pick up Mike.  His flight was scheduled to arrive at 12:55, and it arrived on time.  But no Mike.  We waited for 20 minutes, but he never showed up.  Of course, the airline representatives couldn't tell us whether he was on the plane or not.  So we figured we'd missed him and that he caught a taxi.

When we were planning to go to Ayres Rock, we gave him our address and told him we'd leave him a set of keys at the manager's office.  Just in case our car broke down and we couldn't get back to Cairns in time to get him.  But since the Ayres Rock thing didn't happen, Jon sent him and email and we didn't leave any keys at the office.

We went got home, we found him sitting on the couch in front of the TV.  It turns out he did go to the manager's office and Georgia went ahead and let him.  This is so Australia!  Everyone is so trusting, they didn't even think twice about unlocking the door for him.  I love this place.

So we spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out and planning what we want to do for the next few days.  We drove around town to make those reservations, and also to show Mike a bit of Cairns.  We ended up going to the tourist information office where our friend Haley works, and she booked us on some stuff for the next few days.  I won't give away what we're doing.  You'll just have to tune in to see.

After making all our plans, we went back to the house.  By this time, it was almost dinner time and Mike was starting to feel the jet-lag.  So we hung out and talked, and Jon made Green Curry Chicken for us.  Around 8:00, Mike called it a night and crashed.

Not a very exciting day, but I promise that the next few journal entries will be fun with lots of pictures.
