September 13 - China: Overland from Huangshan to Hangzhou
A few administrative items:
Today was a travel day, which is just as well because I don't feel like sight-seeing. There is a head-cold being passed around our group, and I have caught it along with Mel, Anne, and Ken. It's a fitting companion to my mood. The drive was a long one: 7 hours to Hangzhou. At 3:30, we arrived at the Xin Xin Hotel and I went straight to bed. Jon went to the Shangri-La (an upscale hotel) down the street to buy some English newspapers. At 7:30, we met and went to dinner at a nice restaurant on the waterfront. It's Ted's birthday, so the food was good and Grant had arranged for a cake at the end of dinner to surprise Ted. Afterwards, Ken, Mel, Jon and I went into town to try to find an Internet Cafe. We split up to search a few surrounding blocks, and although we didn't find Mel and Ken again, we did locate an Internet bar with the help of a local hotel. Jon and I were there until 11:00PM, corresponding with friends and offering condolences.
Jon and I have been overwhelmed by kind emails from friends in the States and abroad. Many of these are friends we've made in the last few months. We'd like to thank everyone for your kindness and emails. They are much appreciated, and it's very comforting to know that there are so many people who care. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
