December 21 - Australia: Cairns

An update on the crazy Aussies from the trip to Africa:  Jon's run #33

All during this morning's run I looked for some sort of inspiration to write about something humorous, witty, or even remotely funny.  Nothing really struck me.  I did think about a couple of the Aussies that we met in Africa--I got an email from Matt a few days ago.  Matt moved to Connecticut or something like that back in July or August...well, it seems that he's married now!  And to top that off, his cohort Dennis (most well known for doing the Gorge Swing in a women's bikini) is going to be a father.  It's just absolutely mind boggling.   I guess you had to see these two in Africa, but the stories are all captured in the journal for everyone to read...now try to imagine these two guys that were shooting a video of the trip, complete with commercials, while impersonating the Crocodile Hunter's Steve Irwin, becoming responsible members of society.

Oh, the run?  It was about 10k, I haven't clocked it yet with the truck but that sounds like a great reason to go our for a drive tomorrow!  The run was sunny and hot, no surprise there.

Heidi's Run/Walk

Yesterday, before we went on our day trip, we stopped by a sports store outlet and picked up some inexpensive running shoes for me.  So far, I've been working out in Tevas, and that just doesn't translate very well in the workout plan.  So I broke in my new running shoes this morning on a little run/walk down the Esplanade.  It was a tough run because it's been so long since I've run, but I felt great (albeit exhausted) by the end of it.

Nimda Worm

We've been experiencing some serious problems on the computer.  It's been dogging along in the speed department, and there are some .eml files that have popped up in bizarre directories.  When we try to delete them, the computer crashes.  After doing some searches on the Internet, we realized that we've been wormed by the Nimda Worm.  This is a pain-in-the-tushie worm that proliferates through the computer and creates thousands of unwanted files and .exe files.  It also hits Microsoft Outlook and emails itself to everyone in the Address Book.  Luckily, we don't use MS Outlook so we didn't pass it onto anyone.  But I couldn't upload the journal entries because Yahoo!Website Services has a firewall setup against this virus.  So they probably recognized it before we even knew we had it.  Anyway, Jon spent hours today doing research online and trying to find things to fix it.

Merry Christmas To Us

After a few hours of de-bugging, Jon needed a well-deserved break.  So we went to Deep Sea Diver's Den and spent a while buying ourselves some Christmas gifts: fins, masks, snorkels, wet suits, knives, and dive computers.  Merry Christmas!  We can't wait to break it all in.
