January 28 - Australia: Cairns
Today we slept in because we figured tpday would be the last day in a long while we'll have that luxury. So we woke up at 8:00 and went straight to the DSDD pool to practice our skills circuit. We spent the rest of the morning in the water practicing our demonstration skills for various elements of the course. Among these were:
*WHEW!* At 1:30, we finally decided we were too hungry to continue, so we headed home for lunch and R&R.
We made burritos for lunch, and then I went to the grocery store for some stuff. (Technical term - "stuff"). About 1/2 hour after I'd come home, we remembered that our weekly rent was due. So Jon went to the ATM for cash. Despite the fact that the ATM is only three blocks away, he was gone for a good 45 minutes! When he came back he admitted to going AWOL to map out a new running route.
See, when we get back to the U.S. in April, we're going to drive around the country for a while. Knowing this, Jon found a marathon to run in Vancouver on May 5. This past year, he had to give up his spot in the 2001 NY Marathon because we were on the road. So now he's all excited to plan for another marathon, and one much sooner than the 2002 NY Marathon (which he's already in). Yep. This means he'll run TWO marathons in 2002. Sounds like fun, right?
Don't ask me. I just married him.
So the rest of the evening was spent making pizza dough. The IDC (Instructor Development Course) starts tomorrow at 9:00AM and continues until 8:00PM. 9:00AM - 8:00PM! That's our our schedule for the next 2 weeks. To plan for the late evenings and lack of time, Jon has made extra pizza crust so we can come home and throw together a pizza before we crash.
By the way, the likelihood of me getting journals written in the next two weeks is pretty slim. We'll be super-busy studying and sleeping. But I'll try to throw something together as a study break on the weekends - so keep checking in!
