January 12 - Australia: Cairns

On getting up early to go run:  Jon's run #44

I'm coming to realize that I'm getting a bit older.  When Heidi and I used to lifeguard during summers I would go for a run in the middle of the afternoon.  I don't recall what the weather was like but I recall doing it quite often and after the run would jump into the pool with no worries about how hot it was going to be during the day.  I even remember going for runs in the middle of the day in college and even while on vacation in Key West just a few years ago.  Fast forward to Jon at 30 and now I wake up at 4:15 in the morning just so I can get a run in before it gets terribly hot.  Not much more to say about today's run other than this was the thought occupying my mind for most of the rest of day.  Oh yeah, and I also spent some time on the internet trying to find a marathon in the US that I might be able to get into so we can stop in that city during our (fingers crossed) drive cross-country from LA to DC to NY.  Not really a lot of luck their either...

Today was my day off.  Jon worked.  I did nothing.  Well, I did mop the kitchen and bathroom floors.  I also washed the bed linens.  But most of the rest of the day was spent reading a mystery novel and napping.  We all deserve one of these days off every once in a while.  And my job is so hard!

At 4:45 I went to the grocery story and then to the pier to pick up Jon.  Today was "John the Videographer's" last day, so everyone was headed to Reef Quest to have some beers and wish him well.  We hung out for a while but John the Videographer actually never showed up.  And I had chicken in the car that was undoubtedly cultivating E-Coli.  So we said our good-byes and headed out.

I had to finish off all the tofu and bean sprouts we had in the 'fridge, so I made chicken Phad Thai again tonight.  Still pretty good!  Between Jon's pizza-making skills and my Phad Thai skills, we know we won't ever suffer from starvation.  We will, however, overdose on peanuts and mozzarella cheese.
